Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The school magazine that I had created for my preliminary task was the first task at making a magazine front cover, but also but first step into making my magazine. I had learnt some of the conventions of a magazine but I did not really know them in as much depth as I do now. I have also learnt now that I need to make certain things stand out more to make is engaging. In my main task, I was able to spend more time experimenting with my pages. Most importantly I have learnt how to use the convention wisely and I have use a larger range of colours, fonts and sizes.

Evaluation Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A media institution is a company that owns numerous companies in a range of media such as television, radio, publishing, motion picture, and the Internet. They are responsible for a media text. This could be through marketing, production and distribution. After researching media distributors, I feel Future PLC is best for my magazine. This is because they already have ‘a range of genres and companies’. Whilst researching these magazines I found there has been a decrease in their selling, this means there is an opening for my magazine. This is where I feel my media product fits in because I have created a modern, and original magazine will help sell my magazine to Future PLC.

Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I know, from my survey, that my target audience like to listen to music on albums and see live concerts. This is where they would spend their money meaning they wouldn’t want to spend as much on my magazine. I kept my price of £2.99, an average price to attract buyers from competing magazines as well as new buyers. I also didn’t want to make it too cheap as it shows they do spend money on the music industry. As for my front cover I kept the colours dark but with some bright colours to keep it eye catching.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I followed many conventions of a magazine when I created my own as well as developed and challenged them.
On my front cover I used a masthead. This is a convention that was essential to put on my front cover as it tells the reader what the magazine is called and also gives the reader a clear distinctiveness for your magazine. I placed my masthead in the middle and the top of the page in large white font that contrasts the dark red background.
I also involved many other conventions including a barcode, issue number, price, cover image, secondary images, tagline and cover- lines. I think that these are all essential in making sure that people know what they are buying and also intrigue people into buying it.
